Church Street Tavern – A Worthy Break From Alliot

By Nate Restuccia

I had come at the awkward timing of after lunch but before dinner, so the restaurant was relatively empty but it was cozy from the warm overhead lights. At the door a hostess told me that the only server at the time was the bartender, and I should expect slower delivery times.

I order my root beer and it was what I was expecting. He returned about fifteen minutes later to take my order of a BLT.

It took around 45 minutes for it to come out of the kitchen and to my table. The bread was toasted well, and the mayo was spread evenly. It tasted just like how

dad made my BLT’s when I was younger, and reminded me of eating them on hot summer days in the morning. However, that’s exactly what it tasted like. My dad’s cooking is not restaurant quality. For a $12 BLT I could have gone back to my dorm and made one to the same quality or better.

I ordered a water and the Caesar wrap with grilled chicken.

When the wrap arrived at my table 35 minutes later, the wrap was cut in half and I could see some steam rising from the freshly cooked chicken. The chicken was cooked perfectly to where it wasn’t chewy, but lacked some flavor. There was the right amount of dressing in it so as to not make it overwhelming, the parmesan cheese was a bit scarce and at times felt as if I had none.

Church Street Tavern is a good spot to stop by for a noon time eat, especially if you are looking for a break from Alliot. But it doesn’t go much further than that.
